Film Promotion these days is a huge activity and carries a lot of expenditure. The actors and actresses are seen promoting their films like anything and for the same they visit various places across the country. But because with the changing time it is said that films these days are not making huge profits so the promotional budget suffers a cut. Filmamakers are not making enough profits from the films and so they choose not to promote their films on a large scale.
Films like Bombay velvet, Mr. X, Piku and Khamoshiyan had their promotional budgets drastically cut and so were not promoted so extensively. Trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “Touring cities with the entire cast and their individual teams just adds to the cost of the project. If an actor visits a city to promote a film, the fans are more interested in the actor and less in the film. It is good PR for the stars, that too on the expense of the production house.” That is the reason that films these days are not promoted on a very large level.
It is also believed that huge promotional costs cuts down the producers profit margin and so they all have decided to lower down the promotion cost of the films. Film maker Raju Hirani also said, “If someone makes a film in say 5-6 crore, you would need another 5-6 crore for marketing, so yes the profit in cinema today is very little because the cost of production and marketing is very high.” Even producer Dinesh Vijan said, “Sometimes, promotions of a small films cost as much as the film itself. I feel that the digital space is a more effective way to connect with the audience.”
