Last week’s Hollywood release Godzilla clearly scored over the Bollywood release The Xpose starring Himmesh Reshammiya and Irrfan Khan. Godzilla started on a better note as it collected over 4 crores on first day, despite the fact that people all over India were glued to their TV sets to watch the results of general elections. While, The Xpose met with lukewarm response from the day one but it performed well on weekend.
Godzilla has collected about 30 crores in 5 days while The Xpose made collection of little over than 10 crores. These collections are not great but decent considering the budget and starcast of The Xpose. Success of Godzilla proves that Hollywood has created a niche in India for the audience who have fetish for sci-fi, action and superhero movies. If Godzilla joined the league of the movies like Captain America 2 and The Amazing Spiderman 2 then 2 States starring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt also joined the 100 crore club becoming the second movie of 2014 after Jai Ho which made it to 100 crore club.
Both Godzilla and The Xpose has to make the most of this week as 23rd May will see the release of two big budget Bollywood movies Heropanthi introducing Tiger Shroff and Kirti Sanon and 3D animation Kochadaiiyaan starring Rajnikanth. Hollywood superhero movie of X Men franchise X Men: Days of Future Past starring Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and Jennifer Lawrence will also release on 23rd May.
